Revolutionary Data Management Product Available at Retail Under the Imation Brand OAKDALE, Minn. (Mar. 13, 1997) -- Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), the imaging and information company recently spun off by 3M, today announced the availability of Tape-it Software via its global distribution network, including retail outlets such as COMP USA, effective April 1. Tape-it, tailored for use with Imation's Travan minicartridge technology, enables new functionality for users of minicartridge drives who have traditionally used minicartridge drives for backup and restore applications under Windows 3.X and Windows 95. Imation licenses 10 of the world's leading storage companies to manufacture and market products based on Travan technology. "Tape has been and continues to be the media of choice for backup/restore applications on the desktop," said Ray Meifert, director, PC Markets Segment, Imation. "Now, Tape-it takes Travan minicartridge technology many steps further by providing easy backup capability while enabling users to transport large files, or download data directly from the Internet or commercial online services without cluttering hard disk space. We're excited that Imation will now offer this product to our customers directly." By assigning a drive letter to tape devices on a user's Windows system, Tape-it allows users to create a hard disk backup by simply"dragging and dropping," and open and save files to tape from any Windows application. Tape-it allows users to store and access data on tape cartridges in ways similar to hard disks or floppy disks, taking advantage of tape's low cost-per-megabyte. "Today's desktop PC user needs a fast, inexpensive, reliable way to manage and safeguard data," added Meifert. "Tape-it is a great tool for users dealing with large files because it allows them to do so with low-cost, high-capacity minicartridges." Tape-it is available at a suggested list price of $59.95. To obtain a "lite" version of the software, users can access the Imation web site at http://www.imation.com/tape-it and follow the instructions for downloading. "Tape-it Lite" includes the basic features of Tape-it. Tape-it was developed through a strategic alliance between PGSoft, Inc., Pacific Grove, Calif., and Imation. Imation Corp. supplies a variety of products and services worldwide for the imaging and information industry, and is the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of branded removable data storage media for computing applications. The company generated revenues of approximately $2.3 billion in 1996. Imation employs 9,400 people and is based in Oakdale, Minn.
